Biographical notes:
28th Governor of Iowa (1939-1943) and U.S. Senator (1943-1949). George Wilson was born near Menlo, Iowa, attended college at Grinnell and received his law degree from the State University of Iowa (1907). Prior to becoming governor Wilson held the offices of Polk County attorney (1915-1916); district attorney (1917-1921); and Iowa senator (1925-1935). After an unsuccessful campaign as the Republican candidate for governor in 1936 was he won the 1938 and 1942 elections. In 1942 he won a seat in the U.S. Senate. After his years of public service Wilson returned to his law practice in Des Moines.
