Letchworth was a philanthropist from Erie County, N.Y. Letchworth donated his estate, Glen Iris, to the State of New York. The park is located along the Genessee River in western New York State.

Born in Brownville, N.Y. 26 May 1823. Partner in firm of Pratt & Letchworth of Buffalo, N.Y. In 1906 he offered the Glen Iris and his thousand acres to the State of New York as a public park. Letchworth State Park was born in 1907, saving the lands of the Glen Iris Estate forever.
