John Marshall, 1818-1891
Biographical notes:
John Marshall (1818-1891), anatomist, was born in Ely, the son of William Marshall, a solicitor, and educated at University College London. He was admitted a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1849, and elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1857. He was appointed Professor of Surgery at University College London in 1866, and wrote, among a number of other works, The Outlines of Human Physiology, Human and Comparative (3 vols, 1867). The collection was put together by his daughter, Ada Blanche Marshall, mainly from letters addressed to him.
