Biographical notes:
Mary Inman was a trade union organizer, Marxist theorist, and the author of In Women's Defense (1940). She spent much of her life in southern California where she was an active member of the Communist Party. She argued that women's work in the home was labor that deserved wages and union support. She edited and published a newspaper, Facts for Women, 1943-1946. She was married to James F. Ryan until his death in 1959.
