Lutheran World Ministries (Agency). General Secretary.
Biographical notes:
Established in 1947, the USANC was administered by the NLC Executive Committee from 1947-1966. Upon termination of the NLC in 1967, it became a separate standing body. In 1977, it was reorganized again as Lutheran World Ministries, a joint agency of the Lutheran Church in America, The American Lutheran Church, and the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches. The NCCCUSA was established in 1950 as the successor body of the Federal Council of Churches, the Foreign Missions Conference and the International Council of Religious Education to facilitate church cooperation and provide a means by which churches could act on issues.
Together. The NLC, whose Executive Committee acted as the USANC from 1947-1966, became an affiliated agency of the NCCCUSA's Division of Overseas Ministry in 1964. USANC and LWM General Secretaries served on NCCCUSA committees from the 1960s through the 1980s. The LWM was terminated in 1987 with the establishment of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
