Biographical notes:
Raymond Richard Wade was born on Dec. 21, 1896 in Calhoun County, Ala. In 1921 he married Vertha Viola Padgett. Wade was an iron molder for five years before starting work with Alabama Power Company in 1926 as an electrician and hydro-plant operator. The first leadership position in labor that Wade held was in 1934 when he was elected vice-president of Local Union #904, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Tallassee, Ala. Wade held this position until 1940. From 1938 to 1946 Wade served as Vice-President of the Alabama State Federation of Labor, Montgomery District. In 1946 Wade was elected President, Alabama State Federation of Labor and held that position until 1947. From 1947 to 1951 he was Director of the State Department of Labor under Ala. Gov. James E. Folsom. Wade died in Decatur, Alabama in 1972.
