Attorney and judge (B.A., LL. B. Univ. of Texas). Born 1912 near Blooming Grove, Texas; died 1976. Sewell was elected to the Texas Legislature in 1949 to fill the unexpired term of George O. Nokes, Jr., and represented Navarro County in the 51st and 52nd legislatures, serving on the Public Health, Education, and Judiciary committees. He was appointed County Judge for Navarro County in 1951 and served as such until January 1, 1957. In 1956 he was elected District Judge for the 13th Judicial District of Texas, a position he held until 1972. Judge Sewell was active in Democratic party politics and served as chairman of the Democratic Advisory Council of Texas (1952-1955).
