Jay Small was an Indianapolis antiques dealer. His personal interests included collecting postcards and books related to Indiana history.

Cobb Shinn was born in Fillmore, Indiana. His family eventually moved to Indianapolis where he enrolled in art classes. Shinn is primarily known as a postcard artist. He began producing cards as early as 1907. Shinn served in World War I then returned to Indianapolis in 1919. After his return, he branched out into other commercial art fields including comic strip production, children's book illustration, and photography for the Bretzman Photo Studio in Indianapolis.
