Biographical notes:

1927, Textile Testing and Textile Research Center created. 1958, Department of Research established, William Rainey, Head. The department, which was administered by the School of Textiles and the Office for Development, was formed in response to industry needs. The Southeastern Regional Ginning Laboratory, Department of Agriculture Fiber Testing Laboratory, and American Cotton Manufacturers Institute Laboratory were all located at Clemson. June 1959, Thomas Efland named Head, Textile Research Department. October 1963, Efland named Associate Dean and Director of Research.
