John S. Forman: Businessman and public official of Point Pleasant, Ocean (formerly Monmouth) County, New Jersey; was the son of Samuel J. Forman; pursued various business interests, including running a summer boarding house in conjunction with his farm, acting as an insurance agent and conducting a general store in partnership with others; also served as a customs inspector, a commissioner of wrecks, a justice of the peace and a county judge.
General store: exact location not determined (listed as Point Pleasant in 1825, as Manasquan, Howell Township, Monmouth County, in 1829 and as Howell Township, Monmouth County, in 1832); known from 1822 (when it bagan?) as Miller, Osborn & Eastwood (David Miller, Abraham Osborn, Enos Eastwood); became Miller & Osborn in November 1823 (following the death of Eastwood?); with the sale in February 1824 of David Miller's interest to Abraham Osborn, Jr., and John S. Forman, the name changed to Osborn & Forman; became Osborn, Forman & Co. in April 1829 after Osborn sold his interest to Herbert C. Pearce; name changed to Forman, Pearce & Co. (John S. Forman, Herbert C. Pearce, Thomas Cook, Jr.) in 1832; and then became Forman, Cook & Williams in 1835.
