Administrative History
Celebration Theatre incorporated in 1982 as a community theater to celebrate the positive creative and cultural aspects of the gay and lesbian community of greater Los Angeles. The theater has been in continuous operation since its first production in Jim Kepner's National Gay Archives located on North Hudson Street in Hollywood. The theater later rented space in the Scorpio Theatre on Hoover Street in the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles before moving to a West Hollywood-adjacent location on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles.

The core of this collection consists of performing arts materials from the collection of Ken Dickmann, supplemented by materials from the Purple Circuit, an information clearinghouse for gay and lesbian theater, founded Bill Kaiser.
