Dan Flores was born in 1948 in Vivian, Louisiana, and earned his Ph. D. in history from Texas A & M University in 1978. He is a scholar of Environmental History of the American West. Flores taught in the History Department at Texas Tech University from 1978-1992, and since 1992 at the University of Montana at Missoula.
