American physician considered to be the father of American surgery.

Philadelphia-born surgeon. A former student of Dr. Adam Kuhn, Physick became known as the "Father of American Surgery." He lectured on surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, where the position of "chair of surgery" was created for him.
