Biographical notes:
Represented are George Washington Bassett (1800-1878), who owned plantations in Hanover, New Kent, and Spotsylvania counties and Fredericksburg, Va.; his son, George Washington Bassett (1831-1866), planter and superintendent of public schools for Hanover County; William Bassett (1709-1743), merchant of New Kent County, Va.; and Robert Lewis (1769-1829), a Fredericksburg lawyer.
