William Porter (1812-1899) came to Oregon in 1848 and was chief clerk of the first Territorial Legislature at Oregon City in 1849.

William Porter was an Oregon pioneer who settled in Aumsville, Oregon. He was born in Lincoln County Montana in 1812 and moved to Illinois in 1836. When he was 19 he entered Ill College where he spent four years in obtaining an education. He then taught school until moving to Oregon in 1848, where he continued to teach for a number of years.

William Porter (1812-1899) came to Oregon in 1848 and was chief clerk of the first Territorial Legislature at Oregon City in 1849.
His father was named David and mother's name was Nancy. They were married in Virginia and later moved Missouri and then to Illinois.
