Biographical notes:

Frederick W. Sardeson was born on February 22, 1866 in Owego Mills, Wisconsin. He earned his B.S. in 1891 and M.S. in 1892 from the University of Minnesota. For the next two years, Sardeson was a instructor of paleontology at the University. In 1895, he attended the University of Freiburg, Germany and earned his Ph.D. Dr. Sardeson returned to the University of Minnesota in 1898 as instructor of paleontology and was appointed the rank of assistant professor in 1905. In 1914, Dr. Sardeson left the University of Minnesota to work full-time for the U.S. Geological Survey, for who he had been a consultant since 1889. He remained with the Geological survey until 1924. From 1917 to 1934 he was a geological examiner for the Minnesota Securities Commission. Dr. Sardeson's research focused on formations and faunas, particularly the Paleozoic fossils and rock formations of the Upper Midwest. Dr. Sardeson died on September 25, 1958.
