Blore, Thomas

Biographical notes:

Thomas Blore (1764-1818), topographer, was born on 1 December 1764 at Ashbourne, Derbyshire. He attended the local grammar school, before becoming a solicitor in Derby. Blore moved to Hopton to manage the affairs of Philip Gell, and on Gell's death in 1795 entered the Middle Temple in London, although he was never called to the bar. Blore's topographical works included extensive work on the topography and antiquities of Hertfordshire. He was the father of the architect Edward Blore (1787-1879). He died on 10 November 1818 in London.
