Patricia Reilly Giff was born April 26, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York. After college she married, raised a family, and became an elementary school teacher. She did not begin writing until age 40, but since then her output has been prolific. She specializes in humerous books for middle-grade readers, exploring situations that are familiar to them. She has authored several series, including the Polk Street School Series and the Ballet Slippers Series.
