Eastern Railway Company of Minnesota.
Biographical notes:
The Eastern Railway Company of Minnesota was incorporated in 1887 in Minnesota to construct and operate a rail line between Hinckley and the St. Louis River. The charter transferred to it certain rights of the Minneapolis and St. Cloud Railroad Company. In 1888, the company was consolidated with the Lake Superior and South Western Railway Company (of Wisconsin), thereby receiving extensive land, terminal and dock properties in the vicinity of Superior, Wisconsin. The company eventually owned and operated railway lines throughout Minnesota but principally in northeastern and north central Minnesota. In 1890, the Great Northern Railway Company acquired the capital stock. In 1902, the Great Northern leased all lines of the Eastern Railway Company. In 1907, the Great Northern purchased all existing property of the Eastern Railway. The corporation continued to exist with no property until 1959, when it was dissolved.
