Biographical notes:

Bonaventura (Arturo) Navarrete came to Syracuse in 1990 via May Memorial Church and its sanctuary program. He gained refugee status because of the war in El Salvador. He was sponsored by the Sanctuary Movement of Central America, now called the Central America and Caribbean Refugee Resettlement Program. Upon his arrival, Bonaventura studied upholstery at some of the local social service agencies and later worked at Rayco for ten years. He also took business classes through the city of Syracuse. He opened his upholstery business in the year 2000.
