Nathan Goold was the librarian at the Maine Historical Society. His father, William Goold, was a historian who wrote "Portland in the Past." Mrs. Champion is referred to in the letter as one of the "Goold Girls." She was a resident of Ocean City, N.J., in 1905, when the letter was written.
