Emery Scott Wetzel (b. 1907, Billings, Mont.-d. May 4, 1989), U.S. Air Force officer, graduated from West Point in 1929. By 1935 he was serving with the 72nd Bombardment Squadron in Hawaii, and later became flight commander, 50th Observation Squadron. In 1942 he was assigned as chief of the Military Personnel Division in the Office of the Chief of the Air Corps, and in 1945 served as chief of the War Department General Staff's Personnel Group and assistant chief of staff for personnel, U.S. Army Strategic Air Forces in the Pacific Theater on Guam. He assumed the latter position with the Pacific Air Command, U.S. Army, in Tokyo-redesignated Far East Air Forces-at the end of 1945. During the 1950s, General Wetzel was commander, Military Air Transport Services' Atlantic Division, and vice commander of the Pacific Air Forces in Hawaii, including the 4th and 13th Air Forces with bases in Japan, Philippines, Okinawa, Formosa, and South Korea. In 1959 he became chief of staff, U.N. Command, Korea, with additional duty as chief of staff, U.S. Forces in Korea.
