Randels, Betty.

Betty (Elizabeth Jean) Brooks Randels (1915-2009) was born and educated in Wichita, Kansas. She married Paul Wayne Randels in 1937. Paul's career took them to Illinois where their two sons, Peter and Stephen, were born. The Randels moved to Fort Worth in 1945 and rounded out their family with a daughter, Lynn. Ms. Randels' interests included local, state, and national child advocacy. Betty Randels was instrumental in the construction of a juvenile detention center for Tarrant County, Texas. Previous to her involvement and concern for youth, young people and adult offenders were housed in cells together. She served on various committees and with civic organizations related to child and youth services including the League of Women Voters, Tarrant County Child Care '76, and The Tarrant County Child Welfare Board. Ms. Randels was named Altrusa's Woman of the Year and First Lady of Fort Worth in 1970 and was awarded the Commissioners' Pioneer Award as an Outstanding Woman of Fort Worth in 1997. She spent countless hours volunteering with Girl Scouts; Cub Scouts; Campfire Girls; P.T.A.; and teaching Sunday School and working with church youth and adults.
