Holding company organized in Virginia in 1880 in the interest of Richmond and Danville Railroad Company to subscribe to stock of railroads in Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Mississippi, Georgia, Kentucky, and Alabama; acquired control of 1840 miles of railroad by 1885; in 1886 gained control of Richmond and Danville.
