Hendriks, Frederick, 1827-1909.
Biographical notes:
Frederick Hendriks, actuary, statistician and collector, was born in 1827. He began work as an actuary to the Globe Insurance Company and eventually became director of the Universal Assurance Company. He was a member of the Society of Actuaries and the Royal Statistical Society. He was also known for his interest in international finance and his work on the feasibility of an international currency. The King of Sweden in granted him the decoration of the Order of Vasa in 1870. He died in 1909.
Robert Carl Sticht, metallurgist and collector, was born in New Jersey, United States of America, in 1856. In 1894 he was appointed chief metallurgist to the Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Co. Ltd. in Queenstown, Tasmania. Sticht was a noted collector of artworks and literature, and on his death in 1922 a number of works from his collection were purchased by the National Gallery of Victoria and the State Library of Victoria. The mineral Stichtite is named in his honour.
