Ramsbotham was a London obstetrician most noted for his The Principles and Practice of Obstetric Medicine and Surgery (1844). He received his education at the London Hospital and Edinburgh University, graduating in 1822. He became a licentiate at the Royal College of Physicians of London in 1822. He also had a successful East London private practice which he assumed from his father. He was appointed obstetric physician and lecturer at the London Hospital and physician to the Royal Maternity Charity. He was president of the Harveian and Hunterian Societies.
