Biographical notes:
Journeyman carpenter joined the University Rifle Company at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, mustered into Company B, 20th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry in Columbus, May 14, 1861 for 3 months, then mustered in as a corporal in Company C, 81st Regiment, O.V.I. Sept. 19, 1861. In 1864 he was detailed as a hospital steward to 64th Illinois Volunteer Infantry.
