Biographical notes:

The Regiment was organized in spring, 1777, at Boston and consisted of eight companies from Worcester, Middlesex, Cumberland, Essex, Berkshire, and Bristol counties. In June 1777, it was assigned the 2nd Mass. Brigade, an element of the Highlands Dept. The Regiment was relieved from the Dept. and assigned to the Northern Dept. on July 4, 1777. In Sept. 1777, the Regiment participated in the first battle of Saratoga. (For further information see R.K.
