John Sprent was born in 1915. He was educated at Shrewsbury School in the United Kingdom and the University of London. He has been Emeritus Professor of the University of Queensland since 1983. He was part of the teaching staff from 1952, lecturing in the Veterinary Parasitology Department and then Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science 1963-1969. He has an international reputation in the field of parasitology and has received many awards and medals from the scientific community.
