University of Florida. General Assembly of Faculty.
Biographical notes:
Prior to the creation of a University Senate in 1932, the faculty body of the University of Florida assembled periodically to discuss and act on matters of general interest to the university. The assembly appointed various committees to handle student discipline, athletics, the academic calendar, and other issues. The assembly's powers were curtailed in 1932, but the faculty body continued to meet several times a year for group discussion until the 1950s.

Prior to 1932, the faculty of the University of Florida and its predecessor, the Florida Agricultural College in Lake City, assembled periodically to discuss and act on matters of general interest to the university. The assembly appointed various committees and subcommittees to deal with student discipline, athletics, the academic calendar, and other matters. The assembly's legislative duties were abolished in 1932 when a faculty senate was created. ( See Series 78 .) The faculty body continued to meet three times a year "to permit group contact and group instruction" (University Constitution of 1929 as amended to 1932) until sometime in the 1950s.
