Tanner, currier, surveyor, and farmer who joined the Mormon Church in 1840 and served as Presiding Bishop (1852-1883) for that faith.

Edward Hunter was born on 22 June 1793 at Newton Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He served for seven years in the cavalry and three years as Delaware County Commissioner. He moved to Chester County and married Ann Standley in 1830. He was baptized into the LDS Church in 1840 and moved to Nauvoo. Hunter served as bishop of several wards, supervised emigration to Salt Lake City, and was called to be presiding bishop in 1851. He organized the tithing system and a system to aid the poor. Edward Hunter died in 1855.
