North Carolina School of the Arts. School of Drama

Dates:
Active 1965

Biographical notes:

The School of Drama not only offers its students a progressive college level program designed to turn out competent and experienced young actors, but offers its students the opportunity to perform before the public in both major public performance and workshop settings. The school presents a major production every fall - now in the Stevens Center; a major production presented by junior students in the spring; and workshops scattered throughout the school year in a more intimate setting in the old church on Vintage Avenue. In late winter and early spring the skills of senior students are put to the test in" The Company, "an ensemble group which presents a trio of plays in repertory in the school's Agnes deMille Theatre and tours the Eastern United States for approximately six weeks. Aside from direction and instruction from the drama faculty (who continue to perform and direct) students are exposed to guest artists and directors during the course of the year. The school also offers an intense five-week summer program.
