Biographical notes:

Hewitt participated in the invasions of North Africa, Sicily and Normandy; he commanded the 40th Division Artillery in the Korean War, and was Director of the Military Personnel. Hewitt also commanded the 5th Region Army Air Defense Command, and was the Chief, Military Assistance Advisory Group, Germany (1965-1967).

Robert Augur Hewitt (b. July 11, 1910-d. Aug. 19, 1999), U.S. Army officer, graduated from West Point in 1932. During the years of the Second World War, he served as Secretary, General Staff, Army Ground Forces; Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Training, II U.S. Corps; and Executive Officer, 1st U.S. Army. In the late 1940s he was an instructor at the Command & General Staff School, and in the early 1950s served in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He became Director of Military Personnel for the U.S. Army (1960-1963), and served as Chief, Military Assistance Advisory Group in Germany until his retirement in 1967.
