Biographical notes:

Government official.

A native New Orleanian, Capdeville entered public life in 1877 with the School Board and later served on a number of other local boards and commissions prior to his election as Mayor of the city in 1899. During his administration, the city's modern sewerage and drainage system was installed and the Public Belt Railroad was organized. Also during this time, the racial incident involving Robert Charles took place. Following the expiration of his term as Mayor, Capdeville served as the city's Auditor of Public Accounts until his death at Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, in 1922.
