North Carolina State University. Student Orientation Commmittee.

Biographical notes:

During the spring of 1953 North Carolina State College Chancellor Carey H. Bostian appointed a freshman orientation committee to appraise the orientation program and make reccomendations for improvement. The committee members were students, staff and faculty of North Carolina State College. The members were unanimous in their opinion that the program should not be confined to "Freshman Week," but should continue through the first semester.

The new program included a welcome by Chancellor Carey H. Bostian, a Coke party sponsored by the Woman's Club, recreation activities sponsored by the physical education department, a social evening at the college student union and the traditional tea hosted by the Chancellor. Over a period of time additional activites and programs were added to the Student Orientation Committe agenda, such as an orientation for the parents of freshman students and for black freshman students.
