Biographical notes:

John Walson was recognized by the U.S. Congress as the founder of the cable television industry. In 1948, Walson erected a mountaintop antenna tower and ran a coaxial cable on Pennsylvania Power & Light Company (PP & L) poles to his Mahanoy City, Pa. appliance store to demonstrate television; he then extended lines to homes of TV purchasers, which marked the beginning of Service Electric Cable TV, Inc. In 1987, Service Electric was the largest single-owner CATV system in the United States with 85,000 subscribers.
