Military fort on Yellowstone River, Montana.

Fort Keogh was established in July 1876 near present-day Miles City, Montana, on the Yellowstone River. Colonel Nelson A. Miles oversaw the construction. The fort served as a base for patrolling operations and campaigns against the Sioux and Cheyenne tribes. The fort was decommissioned in the early 1900s, but was re-opened as a cavalry remount station during World War I.
