Biographical notes:
Republican state senator, 1966-1982, representing the 32nd district (Lake and McHenry counties), from Deerfield, Illinois.
Berning served 20 years in local elected offices, including Lake County treasurer before election to the state senate. Married to Alpha Mikkelsen in 1939, with whom he had three children.
