Biographical notes:
Charles Beaujoilais Throckmorton was born in 1842 in Virginia and was educated in Washington, D. C. He was an officer in the United States 4th Artillery, serving in the Civil War, mostly in the West, and later in the Modoc, Nez Percé, and other Indian wars. Major Throckmorton retired in 1894; he served as assistant general superintendent, department of street cleaning, in New York City, 1894-1895.
