Biographical notes:

The American Section of the Lutheran World Convention (LWC) was composed of American members of the LWC executive committee. As events leading to World War II eventually made it impossible for German executive committee members to direct the LWC, American members took charge of LWC affairs. Under the leadership of Ralph Long (1882-1948), National Lutheran Council Executive Director (1930-1948) and American Section member, the American Section provided Lutheran foreign missions with financial support. In 1947, the LWC became the Lutheran World Federation.
