December 11, 1773 Born, Suffield, Connecticut, of David and Rachel (Kent) Tod. 1795 Graduated Yale. Entered Litchfield Law School. 1797 Married Sarah Isaacs. Admitted to the bar and began practice in New Haven, Connecticut. 1800 Removed to Youngstown, Ohio. Admitted to the bar at Marietta. August 1800 Appointed prosecuting attorney of Trumbull County, Northwest Territory. 1801 Retained by the Connecticut Land Company in connection with partition of the Salt Spring Tract. 1802 Became appraiser of taxable property. 1803 Appointed road commissioner. 1804 1806 Served in Ohio State Senate. January 1807 Appointed to State Supreme Court, after serving as interim judge. 1807 1809 Upheld right of courts to declare unconstitutional an act of the legislature. 1807 1819 Advocates of legislative supremacy bring impeachment proceedings against Tod, failing by one vote. 1808 Elected right worshipful Senior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of Ohio Masons. 1810 Removed from the Bench by political manuever. 1810 Made supervisor of roads in Trumbull County, Ohio. 1810 1812 Served in Ohio State Senate. 1812 Served in War of 1812 as major of the 19th Infantry in Northern Ohio. 1812 Served in War of 1812 as lieutenant colonel of the 17th Infantry in regular army. 1812 Active at Fort Meigs and Sackett's Harbour in War of 1812. February 1816 Elected presiding judge of the Third District Court of Appeals. Served until 1829. 1817 1818 Elected as first president of first agricultural society in Trumbull County, Ohio. 1840 Chairman of Warren, Ohio, convention to promote presidential candidacy of William H. Harrison. April 11, 1841 Died at "Brier Hill" near Youngstown, Ohio.
