Born in St. Louis, Apr. 12, 1789, son of Charles and Victoire (Chouteau) Gratiot; married Susan Hempstead, 1813; settled st Fevre River, 1826; removed to Gratiot's Grove; served in Black Hawk War; died in 1936. (from Wis. Hist. Colts., X, 235-75.) (blue index cards)
