Biographical notes:
Residents of New York City and of New Brunswick and Highland Park, Middlesex County, New Jersey.
Eli Baldwin: physician and minister of the Reformed Church in America; born in Hackensack, Bergen County, New Jersey, 1791; graduated from a New York City medical school, 1817, and from New Brunswick Theological Seminary, 1820; served as a missionary in this country, 1822-1825, and as pastor of Houston Street Reformed Dutch Church in New York City, 1825-1839; married Mrs. Phoebe Van Nest, 1827; moved to New Brunswick in 1839 and died there (in the Somerset County section) the same year.
Henry R. Baldwin: physician, of New Brunswick; born in New York City, 1829; graduated from Rutgers College, 1849; studied medicine with George J. Janeway in New Brunswick and later with others in New York City; graduated from College of Physicians and Surgeons, 1853; returned to New Brunswick to live and practice in 1855 and married Elizabeth Van Cortlandt Rutgers (daughter of Anthony Rutgers of Bellville, N.J.) the same year; formed a partnership with son A. Van Nest Baldwin, 1883; participated actively in civic affairs in New Brunswick, including service, 1884-1902, as a trustee of Rutgers College; died 1902.
