Biographical notes:

Irving E. Loveland graduated from Dows High School in Iowa in 1909. He graduated from Iowa State College (University) with a B.S. (1914) in electrical engineering. He was a member of Latauma fraternity (which became Chi Phi in 1922, and was defunct by 1936). His first job was superintendent of the General Electric dynamometer plant in Schenectady, New York. He then worked for General Motors at the Remy Electric Plant in Indiana. There he worked with Charles Wilson on the first automobile self-starter. During World War II, Loveland was the civilian manager of the spare parts division of the U.S. Army and was one of only two civilians present during a meeting with General Dwight Eisenhower before the Normandy invasion. Loveland retired to Vermont where he died in 1980.
