Biographical notes:

Edward Burleson, Jr. was born on November 26, 1826 in Tennessee to Edward and Sarah (Owen) Burleson and moved to Texas in 1830.

During his long career as a soldier, Burleson fought in the Mexican War with Benjamin McCulloch's Texas Mounted Volunteers, served in the Texas Rangers as a lieutenant and major with John S. Ford (1856-1857), and fought as a major during the Civil War. In 1875, Burleson was a delegate from the Twenty-first District to the Constitutional Convention and sat on the committee to locate a penitentiary in East Texas. He died in Austin on May 12, 1877.
