Active 1997

Biographical notes:

George Reed Godfrey sold spring water to factories and offices in the Fairfield area until the advent of the water bubbler. He then turned the land where he found the water into a nursery. George was also a founding member and was active in the Father's Club of Roger Ludlowe High School. His son, (George) Lloyd, continued the nursery business and opened two garden shops in Fairfield, the first in 1934. He was often referred to as "Mr. Dogwood" because of his efforts to preserve the trees central to the annual Greenfield Hill Dogwood Festival. Lloyd retired in 1975 and moved to Florida.
