Walden Lee ("Pug") Ainsworth was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on November 10, 1886 and died on August 7, 1960. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and commanded a destroyer squadron, the U.S.S. MISSISSIPPI and the Pacific Fleet. In December, 1942, he took command of cruiser-destroyer task forces in the Solomon Islands. After the conclusion of World War II, Ainsworth was Commandant Fifth Naval District from August 22, 1945, until his retirement on December 1, 1948.

Walden Lee Ainsworth was born November 10, 1886, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He graduated from Annapolis in 1910 then served as an instructor at Annapolis from 1928 to 1931. He served as commandant of the Fifth Naval District from 1945 to 1948. He received his promotion to vice admiral upon retirement in December 1948. He died on August 7, 1960.
