Biographical notes:

Journalist, educator, and public utilities executive, of Charlotte, N.C.; John Paul Lucas, Jr. (1908-1979), was educated at The Citadel, Duke University (B.A. 1930), North Carolina State College (M.S., psychology, 1931), Princeton University (M.A., English, 1933); employed by Chester News, Charlotte News, and Charlotte Observer newspapers; taught at North Carolina State College (psychology, 1930-1931), the Asheville School (1933-1934), and Clemson (English, 1939 and earlier).

Prior to 1938, served as director of Duke University Press Bureau, executive chairman of Carolinas Farm Congress, and publicity head of the Community Chest; co-authored King of Scuffletoun: A Croatan Romance (1940); trustee of Charlotte College and University of North Carolina Charlotte; vice-president of public relations, Duke Power Company.
