Gruene, Ernest K.
Biographical notes:
Ernest (or Ernst) K. Gruene and his wife Antoinette were among the first of the German settlers to arrive in Texas in the 1840s.
Gruene chose New Braunfels for his starting point. He and his two sons, Ernest (or Ernst) Jr. and Heinrich D., founded Gruene, Texas, about five miles northwest of New Braunfels, in 1872, and developed a farm system for growing cotton.
