Assistant District Attorney Robert B. Helfrich prosecuted former Ku Klux Klan members Sam Bowers and Charles Noble in 1998 and 1999 in connection with the 1966 murder of Vernon F. Dahmer, Sr. of Forrest County, Mississippi. Bowers was convicted of murder and arson and received a sentence of life in prison. Noble's trial ended in a mistrial.
